A midseason Top 20 is an argument with a date on it. Ours is 17 August 2026, seven days before UTMB, and the year already has a shape.
Courtney Dauwalter is #1 because Hardrock still exists and she still wins it. Vincent Bouillard is #2 because he moved the men's 100-mile ceiling 23 minutes in a single afternoon in Auburn. Jenn Lichter is #3 because two course records before July is not a breakout, it is a season. Rachel Entrekin is #4 because Cocodona was not a women's race.
Kilian Jornet is #5 with a DNF and a knee. That sentence is the point of an editorial ranking. The myth is hurt and still the third-most important name on the Chamonix start list.
Phil Gore is #10. If that looks wrong to you, you are ranking one sport. Kick Rocks ranks five. One hundred and nineteen yards is a world championship. It belongs on this list.
The full twenty is on the Top 20 page. UTMB will vandalize it. That is what monuments are for.
